We are a partner in the national early years reading initiative
„Lesestart – Drei Meilensteine für das Lesen" is an initiative supported by the German Library Association, the Borromäusverein, the Evangelisches Literaturportal, the Sankt Michaelsbund and the Fachkonferenz der Bibliotheksfachstellen in Deutschland.
Launched in November 2011 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and Stiftung Lesen, the Lesestart initiative sets out to get parents reading aloud and more children reading, and so to strengthen their educational chances concretely and lastingly.
To that end Lesestart accompanies children through the decisive early years up to the start of school. Over that time families receive a free Lesestart bag three times, each containing a book suited to the age along with tips and information about reading aloud and telling stories.
The initiative focuses on children growing up in educationally disadvantaged circumstances, or who are read to very little.
