This website is operated by Bücherei Eyachtal - KöB St. Jakobus (Owingen Library). In this privacy notice we inform you about the use of personal data when this website is called up. We take the protection of your personal data very seriously and naturally treat it in confidence and always in accordance with the statutory data protection provisions.

The library is an institution of the Röm.-kath. Kirchengemeinde Zollern and is therefore subject to the data protection rules of the Catholic Church, in particular the Act on Church Data Protection (KDG), which applies the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) within the Catholic Church in Germany. What do we use your data for?

Some of the data is collected in order to ensure that the website is delivered without error. Other data may be used to find out how visitors use the website and which areas could be improved or extended.

What data is collected?

Apart from the data your browser transmits in order to call up a web page (IP address, browser, operating system and the time of the page request, among others), our website owbib.de can be used without giving personal data. Where personal data is collected on our pages (through the contact form, when registering for the BVS eOPAC, and for our other online services such as Brockhaus, Munzinger, Onleihe (Divibib), TigerBooks and so on), this is always, so far as possible, on a voluntary basis.

We point out that transmitting data over the internet (in communication by email, for instance) can have security gaps. Complete protection of data against access by third parties is not possible.

Server log files

The provider of our website www.owbib.de automatically collects and stores data in server log files which your browser transmits to us. This data comprises:

  • browser type/browser version
  • the computer's operating system
  • referrer URL
  • host name of the accessing computer
  • time of the server request"

This data is necessary in order to ensure the secure operation of the website and of the server it sits on. Data necessary for carrying out the electronic communication process or for providing particular functions is stored on the basis of § 6(1)(g) KDG (corresponding to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The website operator has a legitimate interest in storing this data in order to provide its services in a technically faultless and optimal way.

How long is your data stored?

We hold to the principles of data avoidance and data economy. We therefore store your personal data only as long as is necessary to achieve the purposes named here, or as the various storage periods laid down by the legislator provide. Once the respective purpose falls away or those periods expire, the data concerned is routinely blocked or erased in accordance with the statutory provisions.

If you have given us your email address through the contact form and do not yet have a user account at our library, or have not yet given an email address there, we use your email address only to answer your enquiry. The details you have given are stored for the purpose of dealing with the enquiry and any follow-up questions. Once your enquiry has been dealt with, personal data is erased automatically.

We store personal data for access to your user account (BVS eOPAC and our other online services) through our website. We store the personal data from your user account, and for access to it, for as long as you are listed as a user of our library.

SSL encryption

To protect the security of your data during transmission we use encryption methods appropriate to the current state of the art (SSL, for instance) over HTTPS.

If you contact us by email or through the contact form, the details you give are stored for the purpose of dealing with the enquiry and any follow-up questions.

If you visit one of our pages fitted with a YouTube plugin, a connection to YouTube's servers is established. In doing so the YouTube server is told which of our pages you have visited.

Privacy notice on PayPal as a means of payment

For our Friends of the Library we have integrated PayPal components into this website for the purpose of transferring donations. PayPal is an online payment service provider. Payments are handled through so-called PayPal accounts, which are virtual private or business accounts. PayPal also makes it possible to handle virtual payments by credit card where a user does not hold a PayPal account. A PayPal account is run through an email address, which is why there is no classic account number. PayPal makes it possible to initiate online payments to third parties or to receive payments. If the data subject selects „PayPal" as the means of payment during the donation process, data about the data subject is transmitted automatically to PayPal. By selecting this payment option the data subject consents to the transfer of personal data necessary for handling the payment.

The personal data transmitted to PayPal is as a rule first name, surname, address, email address, IP address, telephone number, mobile number or other data necessary for handling the payment. Personal data connected with the respective order is also necessary for handling the contract of sale.

The purpose of transmitting the data is handling the payment and preventing fraud. The controller will transmit personal data to PayPal in particular where there is a legitimate interest in doing so. The personal data exchanged between PayPal and the controller may under certain circumstances be transmitted by PayPal to credit reference agencies. The purpose of that transmission is checking identity and creditworthiness.

Where necessary, PayPal passes personal data to affiliated companies and service providers or subcontractors, in so far as this is necessary to fulfil contractual obligations or where the data is to be processed on its behalf.

The data subject may withdraw consent to the handling of personal data vis-à-vis PayPal at any time. A withdrawal does not affect personal data that must be processed, used or transmitted in order to handle the payment (in accordance with the contract).

Further information on our presence on social media

We maintain online presences within social networks and platforms in order to communicate with the customers, interested parties and users active there and to inform them about our services.
