Library rules

General

Please note: this English version is a reading aid. Only the German Benutzungsordnung is legally binding.

The Katholische öffentliche Bücherei St. Jakobus, Haigerloch-Owingen is a public institution of the parish. Its task is to provide books and other items for information, education, entertainment and leisure. Everyone is entitled to use the library under these rules on a public-law basis, whatever their background or denomination.

Use of the library is free of charge in principle. Charges for particular services, together with fees and reimbursement of costs, are levied according to the schedule of fees belonging to these rules (posted in the library), in the version currently in force. Loan periods and opening hours are likewise announced by notice in the library.

For information on data protection at the library, please see the data protection annex1.

Registration and library card

On registration a library card is issued. It is not transferable and remains the property of the library. Children and young people up to the age of 16 require the written consent of a legal guardian, who thereby accepts liability for any damage and undertakes to settle any fees and claims that arise. If the library team does not know you, please show your identity card or a digital ID. By signing, whether by hand or digitally, you agree that the library may send you information electronically without asking again. Please tell us promptly if your name or address changes.

Items may only be borrowed with a valid library card. Its loss must be reported to the library without delay. The registered borrower, or their legal guardian, is liable for any damage arising from misuse of the card. A fee is charged for issuing a new card to replace one that has been lost or damaged.

Use, borrowing, loan periods and reservations

Borrowing is free of charge. Fees may be charged for certain items. The library team is glad to advise you while you are borrowing. The number of items you may borrow can be limited. Borrowing may be made conditional on the return of items already recalled and on the settlement of outstanding payments. Please check items for obvious defects before borrowing, and games in particular for completeness.

The items on offer may be used in the library and borrowed for use elsewhere. When using them, the statutory provisions of copyright law must be observed; the borrower is liable for any infringement. The provisions of the law on the protection of young people apply equally. Videos, DVDs, computer games, console games and the like are lent only in accordance with the FSK and USK age ratings.

Items belonging to the reference collection, or which for other reasons are to be used only in the library, may be excluded from borrowing permanently or temporarily.

Loan periods are announced by notice in the library. Reserved items cannot normally be renewed. The due date for the items you have borrowed is shown on your current loan receipt or in your personal account in the online catalogue.

Items on loan may be reserved.

Interlibrary loans

Items not held by the library can usually be obtained through interlibrary loan. The rules of the supplying library apply in addition.

By the way …

We will obtain any book available on the market for you at any time, in cooperation with the book trade. You pay only the publisher's original retail price.

Passing items on

Please do not pass borrowed items on to others. You are responsible for the items you have borrowed.

Catalogues

If your search for a particular item comes to nothing, please ask us. All print and non-book items, e-media and databases can be found through our online catalogue, which you can search on our computers or tablets during opening hours. You can of course also search at any time and from anywhere on your own computer, laptop, tablet or phone.

Returns

If the loan period is exceeded, an overdue fee falls due in accordance with the schedule of fees, whether or not a written reminder has been sent. Written reminders incur postage costs in addition. Overdue and reminder fees, and other claims, may be recovered by legal means.

Loss, damage and liability

Please do not repair damaged items yourself. Do come to the library team about it.

Please tell us if borrowed items, or parts of them, are lost. In the event of loss or damage you are liable for compensation. Please do not arrange a replacement yourself.

The library determines the nature and amount of the compensation. In the case of damage it is measured by the cost of restoration, and in the case of loss by the replacement value.

The library is not liable for damage caused to your equipment by the use of borrowed items.

CD-ROMs and other data media

Where CD-ROMs and other data media for computers, apps for phones and the like are made available, they have been checked for viruses. Please understand that we cannot guarantee absolute freedom from viruses and therefore cannot accept liability for any impairment of your equipment or for consequential damage.

Copyright

When using items and other services, including online services, the statutory provisions of copyright law must be observed. You are liable for any infringement of copyright. The provisions on the protection of young people in public (JÖSchG) apply equally. Videos, DVDs and so on may only be shown privately. Any non-private presentation (for example public screening, broadcast or other performance) and any reproduction (for example copying onto blank media) is prohibited.

By accepting these rules you permit photographs to be taken of you during a visit to the library or at a library event, approve their use in print and on the internet, and waive your rights of use in favour of the library.

Internet

Children and young people up to the age of 18 require written permission from a person with parental responsibility, on presentation of an identity card or digital ID, in order to use the internet. Information or addresses with content glorifying violence, or that is pornographic and/or racist, may not be accessed, saved or entered on the internet. Entries that alter the configuration of hardware or software are prohibited. Copyright and licence provisions must be respected. In the event of damage, the library reserves the right to claim compensation and to take further legal steps.

The library is not liable for contractual obligations you enter into with service providers on the internet, nor for the security and protection of personal data you enter on the internet. The library gives no guarantee that internet access will be available at all times, and is not responsible for the content, availability or quality of third-party services obtainable over the internet.

House rules and exclusion from use

Please behave in the library in such a way that others are not disturbed or impaired. Smoking is not permitted. The library accepts no liability for items that are lost, damaged or stolen.

House rights are exercised by the head of the library or by the staff entrusted with exercising them. Their instructions must be followed. If you breach these rules seriously or repeatedly, you may be excluded from using the library permanently or for a limited period.

By entering the library you accept these rules.

Thank you!

… because by observing these rules you help us all to enjoy the library and the library team to do its work!
