We are all volunteers, and week after week we work to keep your library modern, up to date, wide-ranging, informative, interesting, appealing and well cared for. We are happy to advise you in person. The whole running of the library is organised and managed by us, on our own responsibility and in our own free time.

"I became part of the team when Bücherei Eyachtal and the Haigerloch town library merged.
After 4 years in Haigerloch something new is beginning for me now.
I enjoy working with children, and I really like meeting readers and talking with them.
The team has made me very welcome and I am looking forward to my time at the library."

"I first got to know the KöB here in the village at the age of 10, and in 1982, at 15, I started helping out on the team. Together with Rüdiger I was library manager from 1990 to 2000. In 2012, after a break for work reasons, I took over as manager again. From 2017 onwards it has been a shared job on the management team.
Working with and for people at the library has genuinely shaped and influenced my own career. I take great pleasure in working in a team, bringing in my own ideas and putting them into practice. Reading promotion for children matters a great deal to me, and to this day I gladly give my time to it as a volunteer at our library almost every day."

"I love reading myself, on paper or on a screen, and I want to bring the wonderful world of books closer to other people, especially children. Reading promotion for children is therefore very close to my heart, and I am delighted whenever I can get them reading.
Working in the team gives me a lot of pleasure, and the sheer variety of jobs in library work means it never gets monotonous."

"I came to the library through my son, who is on the team as well. He told me that one of the opening days might have to close because there were not enough volunteers. So I decided to help out, and I have not regretted it for a moment. The work is fun and the team is wonderful."

"As a little bookworm, Owingen Library was already a very special place for me in my childhood. Today I am delighted to be part of a volunteer team that keeps the library alive with a great deal of commitment and good ideas. The many positive responses from our readers show me again and again that we are doing something genuinely worthwhile here, for people of every generation."

"I heard about Owingen Library through Bernd, who was my teacher at primary school and told us about it. I really enjoy working in the team. I think it is great because the work is varied and exciting. For me personally it has meant cool outings with the team, lots of friends, and always something new to discover and experience."

"Books have been with me all my life, and libraries were always a fascinating place, full of knowledge, stories and encounters.
Being part of a volunteer team that lets other people use such a place free of charge is not only a pleasure, it also gives you the feeling of doing something meaningful."

"Even as a child I was a keen reader at Owingen Library. When the library moved from index cards to computers in 1990, I got the chance to help out for the first time, which lasted 6 years. My second „term of office“ then began in 2012 and continues to this day.
Since then I have looked after all the financial tasks, along with the statistics and the grants, which I greatly enjoy. I also try to lend a hand in various other areas such as the loans desk and the book ordering service, as well as offering Bernd moral support.
Working at Owingen Library is a great joy for me; it is so lovely to see children's eyes light up when they borrow their Tonie figures, for instance…
So I hope to be part of this wonderful team for a long time yet, and that Owingen Library carries on for many years to come."

"The library was already a favourite place of mine in childhood. Reading was and still is very important to me.
I support the library because it is a place for EVERYONE, open to encounters. Getting children reading by reading aloud to them and drawing them into the story gives me a great deal of joy."

knitting and crochet group
"Back in my school days I crocheted little things for my Barbie dolls. Later, when my daughter was on the way, I took it up again – and after a few years' break the pleasure of knitting and crocheting came back. In Owingen I then found a craft group that meets once a week.
When we lost our room, the library took us in – and ever since, the group has been a fixed part of my week. It is lovely to meet new people, share what you know and be creative together. I hope our little circle carries on like this for many years."

"The first time I came to the library, Bernd showed me everything and said I was welcome to help out if I felt like it. I thought it was really cool here straight away and just joined in.
I really enjoy working in the team – I get on well with everyone, and helping others comes easily to me.
There are cool things going on too, like the recent outing to the Christmas market in Stuttgart, which I probably would never have done otherwise. I am already looking forward to the next ones!"

"As soon as I could read, it became my greatest hobby. A life without books is unimaginable to me. The moment I finish one book I start the next. I would love to share that enthusiasm with our readers, and to pass on the odd tip."
Since the summer holidays of 2022 we have unfortunately had to suspend Saturday borrowing, as we are currently short of people for that day.
Are you free on Saturdays from about 9.30am to 12 noon, to help us open the loans desk again from 10.00am to 11.30am? Then do get in touch – or simply drop by during opening hours.
Even if Saturdays do not suit you: we welcome any help at all!

"Libraries are gathering places for culture and knowledge. Books and other items give access to the past, the present, the future and everything in between.
Every book read, every film watched, every audio play heard...all of it contributes to a person's development and unfolding.
Making that access available to other people free of charge fills me with joy and with a sense of purpose, and it is what motivates me to volunteer at Owingen Library."

"Working at the library is more than volunteering for me – it is a real passion. The wonderful team and the sense of community above all make every hour there something special. Being in contact with our readers enriches everyday life and brings real joy. It is good to be needed, to get something moving together – and now and then to do something together as well, like our outings, which are always great fun. The technical side, such as our 3D printer, also gives me a lot of pleasure and shows how varied the work can be. Volunteering is something to be proud of – because it connects people, fulfils you and gives meaning."

"Even though I am not on site much any more, I am glad to contribute from a distance, supporting our team and strengthening the team spirit. Our library should be a place where everyone – young and old – feels welcome, understood and in good hands – not only for reading, but simply for being. For anyone looking for inspiration, support, or just a sheltered space away from everyday life.
It matters to me that we are there not only for one another but for our readers too – with new ideas, modern technology, plenty of heart, and understanding and respect. That is how we build a lively, helpful, modern and future-proof library together, one that everyone enjoys being in – as a visitor or as a volunteer team member."

"I get on really well with the team – everyone is lovely, and I like working with others to get something moving together.
I also think it is cool how the library has developed since the fire, especially digitally. Things are really happening, and I am curious to see where it goes next.
Volunteering means something to me – our society simply needs it. I am grateful to be part of the team.
And honestly: I think we can already say that together we have built something really big – in good times and hard ones alike."
